Advancement - USNSCC
To maintain enrollment in the NSCC, Cadets must achieve, at a minimum, one advancement per enrollment year.
In both the NLCC and NSCC, all advancements will require, at a minimum:
- Completion of a correspondence course or other academic requirement
- Pass the Physical Readiness Test every 6 months
- Attend Training events
New Cadets enter the unit as a Seaman Recruit. To advance in rate, a cadet should first complete the BMR requirements and plan to attend Recruit training (RT) in the summer. After attending RT there are several Advanced Trainings available to cadets based on their interests. See the Cadet Training listings on Homeport or click below.

Cadets earn ribbons, medals, appurtenances, and other awards to wear on their dress uniforms by completing trainings, advancing in rate, academic merit, community service, physical fitness, and more.
