From: Commanding Officer Training Contingent (COTC) To: All Adult Staff & Staff Cadets Subj: RECRUIT TRAINING RT-TN
1. Welcome to RT-TN, the XOTC LTJG
Patrick Carbone and I appreciate you volunteering to serve on the staff this year and look forward to working with each one of you. 2. I would like all Staff to arrive on Saturday
09 Jun 05 prior to 1600. We will be having an all staff meeting/dinner Saturday evening in order to get to know each other and to layout our plans and expectations for the 2-weeks of training. If you will have difficulty arriving on Saturday, please call or email me. Arrival in civilian clothes is authorized. Once you arrive and are checked-in you will not be authorized to leave the training facility unless it is to conduct official business for the training or an emergency arises. In either case, please clear it with the XOTC or COTC. We are there to ensure the proper training and safety of our cadets entrusted to our care, this requires our presence and vigilance at all times. Bring a set of white twin size sheets (w/pillowcase) and a blanket these items are not being supplied by the base. 3. For adult staff only: HQ will reimburse you for travel to/from training this year at $.15 per mile up to 400 miles each way. Requests cannot exceed mileage as calculated by "Mapquest". This is paid regardless of whether you drive or are a passenger in a vehicle. Active duty or Reserve Navy personnel on paid orders are not eligible. If you are on "no-cost" TAD you will receive these funds. 4. The XOTC and I firmly believe in leading by example. All staff will be held to the highest uniform and conduct standards of the Navy and Naval Sea Cadet Corps. The following applies (although may not be all encompassing): · Uniforms: o NSCC/USNR/USN OFFICERS & CHIEFS: Summer whites, Khaki's, Wash Khaki's (optional) ribbons not worn, No BDU's. o USN/USNR ENLISTED & NSCC STAFF CADETS: Summer (cotton or CNT) Whites, Dress whites, and Utilities, No BDU's.
o The standard uniform of the day is as follows: OFFICERS/CHIEFS: Khaki CC's/ENLISTED: Utilities STAFF CADETS: Utilities
· Grooming Standards o All males will have regulation haircuts and shave daily o Females will keep their hair regulation in length and/or pinned up appropriately. · Conduct o All staff will conduct themselves appropriately at all times. There will be NO bickering among staff in front of Recruits. Bring all disagreements to the XOTC in private away from Recruits. o Always praise in public and discipline in private. Ensure the 2-man rule is adhered to at all times (especially between Male/Female). o There will be no hazing, harassment, or any form of mistreatment EVER! o We are here to be coaches and mentors. I will not tolerate "authoritarian" type of conduct from Staff Cadets or Adults. I understand that discipline will be required at times for certain Cadets, that is understandable and should be conducted in a way that the cadet goes away having learned something. NEVER TOUCH ANOTHER PERSON FOR ANY REASON. For continuous discipline problems refer the cadet to the XOTC. Staff Cadets are not to discipline Recruits without the presence of an adult leader. o Partaking of alcoholic beverages is forbidden. Don't even bring it with you. I will designate an area away from cadets for those of you who use tobacco products. This will be the only authorized area to use tobacco and will NEVER BE USED AROUND Recruits or Staff Cadets. o Report all mishaps, accidents, or problems to the XOTC immediately no matter how trivial it may seem to you at the time. This will protect you and will keep good communication up/down the Chain-Of-Command. Good communication is essential to a successful training period. 5. Staff Cadets will be required to participate in daily PT. All adult staff will be required to dress out as a minimum and highly encouraged to participate daily PT (Lead by Example).
Again, we look forward to working with you this summer. If you have any questions or comments please feel free to contact us at: COTC@tnbb43.org Home: 901-624-8412 Cell: 901-827-9060. XOTC information: XOTC@tnbb43.org.
